The ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB), Hisar, Haryana, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on February 1, 2026, by organizing a Farmer–Scientist–Industry Meet. The event marked an important milestone in the institute’s ongoing efforts to advance buffalo research and development in India.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Col. Ajay Kumar Gahlot, Former Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner as Chief Giest. Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO, Agrinnovate India and Former Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India, and Dr. Naresh Jindal, Director of Research, LUVAS, Hisar, graced the event as Guests of Honour.
Progressive farmers from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh participated in the programme along with representatives from the dairy industry and Development Organizations. A total of 120 participants attended the event. The meet served as a valuable platform for interaction and exchange of ideas among farmers, scientists, and industry partners. Farmers shared their experiences, challenges, and success stories, while emphasizing the need for practical and affordable technologies to enhance buffalo productivity and profitability. The Institute also felicitated progressive farmers symbolizing the strong bond that scientists share with the farming community. Industry experts highlighted new developments in milking, nutrition, and health management.
The distinguished guests emphasized that the future of buffalo farming lies in the use of smart sensors, precision farming tools, and genomic selection, which can greatly enhance livestock production efficiency. In this context, the institute’s ongoing efforts to develop and integrate digital technologies, genomic tools, and data-driven management systems in buffalo farming will help monitor animal health, reproduction, and feeding behaviour in real time, leading to more efficient and sustainable production systems. The meet concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work together for scientific, sustainable, and farmer-oriented buffalo development in India.
