Ultrasonography in large animal reproduction for fertility augmentation

A model training course on “Ultrasonography in large animal reproduction for fertility augmentation” sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare, Government of India was held from 15th – 22nd Feb., 2016 at ICAR-CIRB, Hisar wherein twenty eight participants from 12 states across the country viz. Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam and Manipur attended the program. Main emphasis was on practical’s and hands-on training sessions on ultrasonography in buffaloes. During the training program, various lectures by external faculty and institute scientists on the application of ultrasonography in livestock were delivered.  In addition, practical sessions were also arranged on the use of ultrasonography in small animals, pets and equines at LUVAS and Equine Breeding Stud, Hisar respectively.


Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director ICAR-CIRB, Hisar emphasized the importance and use of ultrasonography under field conditions for fertility augmentation in large animals. Dr P S Yadav, Head APR Division, mentioned the importance of use of modern reproductive technologies including cloning. In addition, Dr. JS Bhatia, Former ADG Education ICAR, deliberated about the current scenario and future challenges of veterinary practice in India. At the end the training, the participants were provided their feedback about the training. On 22nd February 2016 Director, ICAR- CIRB distributed course completion certificates, course compendium and soft copy of the training material to all participants.
