Dr. Inderjeet Singh becomes President of the Asian Buffalo Congress
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar and a renowned animal reproduction scientist has taken over as the President of the Asian Buffalo Congress during the recently concluded 8th Asian Buffalo Congress, held in Istanbul, Turkey. He presented an invited Lead paper at the Congress, highlighting the rich buffalo germplasm diversity of the country and the recent initiatives of the Government of India towards identification, production and propagation of the world’s best buffalo breed – Murrah in its home tract of Haryana and rest of the country. He also emphasised on the other important milch breeds of the country like Nili Ravi, Jaffarabadi, Banni and Pandharpuri with their unique characteristics and milk production potential.
Dr. Singh also chaired one technical session during the congress. Dr. Singh has also been the part of some other global initiatives on buffalo development including SAARC countries at Dhaka, buffalo recording workshop at Lahore and international buffalo development consultation at Manila in the recent past.
Dr. Singh has served the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes for the last 14 years, apart from over 16 years of services provided to the College of Veterinary Sciences, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. Widely travelled throughout the world, Dr. Singh is Fellow of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences and the Indian Society for the Study of Animal Reproduction, besides holding the post of its General Secretary
Under the leadership of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, the 9th Asian Buffalo Congress will be organized in India during 2018 to addresses the key issues relevant to buffalo production. It is expected that this congress will draw delegates not only from Asian countries but from across the globe owing to greater interest being evinced by several countries in buffalo as the producer of high quality milk and meat.
