ASEAN training on Reproductive Biotechnology at ICAR-CIRB, HISAR

ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar organised a 10-day training programme (Jan31 – Feb9, 2017) on ‘Buffalo production using reproductive biotechnology’ for delegates from ASEAN countries.  The program was sponsored by the ASEAN-India Joint Cooperation Fund. The training was attended by sixteen participants from 8 ASEAN member countries – two each from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. During this training the participants were acquainted with the modern biotechnology tools for use in livestock production systems especially buffaloes. Various topics and practicals were covered by experts from CIRB and leading outside institutes.

 Meeting onStrengthening Extension Services” on convergence mode for dairy development
 A meeting on Strengthening Extension Services on convergence mode for dairy development was organized by ICAR-CIRB  under the chairmanship of Director, Dr. I J Singh on 7th January, 2017 to delineate the roles and expectations of  various agency working for dairy development on  convergence mode . On this occasion,  Dr. V V Sadamate, former advisor Planning Commission was the chief guest and presented his key note address. Stakeholders of dairy development representing research institutions like Director ATARI (Zone-I), Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director Extension LUVAS, Dr. Sudhiranjan Garg, Additional Director training, Dr. Nishi Sethi, Head Extension CCS HAU, Dr. Pradeep Sehrawat were present on the occasion.

ICAR-CIRB organized training on “improved buffalo husbandry practices” from 17th- 23rd December, 2016

ICAR-CIRB successfully organized six-days training on “Improved Buffalo Husbandry” for the farmers, youths and the buffalo entrepreneurs from the 17th-23rd December, 2016. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director, ICAR-CIRB in his valedictory speech reiterated about buffalo as the “Black Gold” and emphasized its importance in socio-economic emancipation of agrarian community.The training coordinators for the training were Dr. Sajjan Singh (Principal Scientist & I/C, CIRB, Nabha sub-campus), Dr. Varij Nayan (Scientist (SS)) and Dr. M.L. Sharma (ACTO). They also emphasized that buffaloes have immense potential for poverty alleviation and rural entrepreneurship and just like any other successful agribusiness enterprises; buffalo farming too needs a highly dedicated scientific advisory system for decision making support. In this training, 63 persons coming from different parts of Haryana and also from Kolkata, West Bengal were imparted training on various aspects of buffalo husbandry, feeding and management practices. The trainees were also sensitized about the aspects of buffalo oestrous cycle, reproduction management, frozen semen production, clean milk production, mastitis, important diseases of buffalo, vaccination schedules, importance of record keeping and buffalo husbandry in climate change scenario and also the simple strategies / measures to combat it.

 ICAR-CIRB Scientists Awarded during ISSRE-2017 at ICMR-Delhi

Dr. Naresh SelokarScientist received Prof. SS Guraya Young Scientist award  by the Indian Society for study of reproduction and fertility (ISSRF). Award was conferred for his outstanding contributions in the field of somatic cloning and assisted reproduction techniques in buffalo. Besides Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, Scientist and his team received 'Best Poster Presentation award' on 'PiggyBac mediated reprogramming of buffalo fetal fibroblasts to generate induced pluripotent stem cells'. Both the awards were conferred during the International Conference on reproductive health with emphasis on Strategies for Infertility, Assisted Reproduction and Family Planning, ICMR, New Delhi  held from January 23 - 25, 2017

 ICAR-CIRB Scientists Awarded 

Dr Prem Singh Yadav, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIRB, Hisar, was awarded SAPI fellow 2015 on 21st December 2016 at the XXVth Annual conference of Society of Animal Physiologists of India held at Veterinary college, MHOW, MP. F-SAPI 2015 was awarded by Vice Chancellor   Dr PD Juyal, Vice Chancellor, NDSU, Jabalpur in the presence of Prof ML Madan Former DDG, Dr UK Garg Dean,  Dr VH Rao President SAPI, and SAPI members. Every year one leading Animal Physiologist of the country is awarded with this prestigious SAPI Fellow considering the overall scientific achievement. 


Dr Pradeep Kumar,  Dr Monika Saini, Dr D Kumar, Dr A Bharadwaj and Dr  P S Yadav received “Best Research Paper Presentation" award on Estimation of osteopontin and total antioxidants in seminal plasma help in identification of subfertile bulls in the scientific session on Andrology and Artificial insemination at 32nd Annual convention of ISSAR and National Symposium on Animal Fertility and Fecundity at Crossroads: Addressing the issues through conventional and advanced reproductive technologies organized by Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, College of Veterinary Science, SVVV, Tirupati during 6- 8 December, 2016
